The gearbox is made up of a housing (26), an entry shaft (1) carrying the primary pinions (6,7,8,9,10,11) permanently in mesh with the secondary pinions (12,13,14,15,16,20) mounted to freely rotate on the output shaft (2) which is parallel to the entry shaft (1). Selective engagement of these gears with the output shaft (2) is by the intermediary of drive couplings (29) actuated by push rods (17,18,19,21) under the control of the operating shaft (25) connected to the external gear shift leaver. This shaft (25) is fitted with transmission fingers (34,35) whose movement select the appropriate gear by positioning the finger (34,35) over the end face of the selected push rod (17,18,19,21) and by its rotation assures the engagement of the required gear by the movement of the appropriate push rod. This operating rod (25) passes through the housing from one part to the other (26) in a direction at right angles to the input shaft (1) so that it can be connected to the external gear shift lever at the top or bottom of the gear box housing.
