The strings of the guitar bear against a bridge which includes a base block (22) glued to the surface of the sound box (25). The strings are secured to a fixed post (30) mounted independently of the surface of the sound box, and attached to a bracket (26) secured within the resonance chamber of the sound box. The upper end of the fixed post (29) projects through a hole (30a) in the upper surface of the sound box without contacting the surface. The strings are attached in pairs to three fixed posts, arranged at the apices of an isosceles triangle (N) which is symmetrical about the longitudinal axis of the sound box. The bracket is triangular in elevation, with a pointed end defining the isosceles triangle base for the posts.
