The prosthesis consists of an articulated joint (2) with two projecting rods (6,8) which slide into anchoring sleeves (3,4) in the adjacent bones, with lugs (12,15) on the rods engaging with grooves (24) along the inside of the sleeves to ensure the appropriate angular position. One of the two rods is jointed to a shell (6) with a plastic insert (7) shaped to receive a ball (13) on the end of the other rod which clips into place. The shell is made with adjoining spherical and truncated conical sections, the latter having a U-shaped notch (11) for the second rod (8).
