A device for moving intermittently used-fittings, particularly audience seats in a public place, back and forth between an inoperative position in which they are stored under the floor of the hall, which is thereby left bare, and an operative position in which they are positioned on the optionally tiered floor, wherein the floor of the hall consists of the top surfaces (10a, 10b) of boxes (8a, 8b), each box forming a tier and said boxes (8a, 8b) being arranged in at least two symmetrical parallel rows. At least some of the boxes contain the fittings (15a, 15b) lined up and secured to a common carrier (14, 22) which is in turn mounted on rollers. The boxes are vertically movable and combined with mechanical systems for lifting the boxes so that the bottom (11b) of a first box (8b) can be raised to the level of the top (10a) of a symmetrical adjacent box (8a) forming a local floor element, whereby the fittings (15a) lined up and stored in the first box (8b) can be slid out into the operative position on top of the second symmetrical adjacent box (8a).
