The cylinder block (1) comprises a cylinder unit (3) which is preformed by extrusion or continuous casting. The unit is screwed to a housing (2).Clamping screws in a section of the housing (2a) tension together both the cylinder unit and the crankshaft bearing cover (6) on opposing sides of the housing. In between the cylinder unit and either the housing or the housing section is a gasket (4), esp. a sheet metal seal support with beads.
