PARTIALLY LAMINATED RUBBER CLOSURE

The present invention pertains to a partially PTFE laminated rubber closure (10) for pharmaceutical vials which resists undesired removal prior to placement of an aluminum over-cap on the vial and closure (10). The rubber closure (14) includes a flat circular head (12) which protrudes over the end of the pharmaceutical vial. Secured to the underside of the head is a cylindrical sealing portion (14) which is partially laminated with PTFE (20) at its lower end. Above the end of the PTFE (20) on the outside of the sealing portion (14) is a protruding ring (22) of rubber. This ring (22) allows good high friction contact between the closure (10) and the vial which prevents the closure (10) from dislodging during transportation of the vial after application of the closure (10) and prior to application of an aluminum overcap. A method for making the closure (10) is also provided.
