Appts. for generating high pressures of about 1.5 kbar or high forces of about 250 kN by firing a burning composition in pellet form and transferring the resultant gas pressure to a hydraulic circuit. The hydraulic pressure is used in tools such as (8) pref. for prising open metal doors where jaws (10), possibly with piercing tool (35), tear the door frame from its hinges. Alternatively items such as hook (36), which grips the hinge, working in conjunction with support (37) bearing against the door, can be used.
