A process is disclosed for feeding smoking machines with cigarettes (1) automatically introduced into a cigarette holder (2) provided with a seal and a stop (11). Reliable and safe automatic feeding, even of cigarettes (1) of different sizes, may be achieved without stopping times in that each cigarette (1) is introduced into a feeding tube (3) and the feeding tube (3) is pushed through the seal (10) of the cigarette holder (2). A particularly advantageous process consists in pushing or drawing the cigarette (1) into the cigarette holder (2) by means of an overpressure or vacuum made in the feeding tube (3). Also disclosed is a device for carrying out the process.
