A protective frame (10,12) of rigid material is divided into lower and upper sections (14,20). The sections are telescopically adjustable on each other, for height adjustment. When the backrest (34,42) of the rear seat is in upright position, the lower frame section is fixed to the rear of the backrest. The upper frame section is adjustable between a lower position, in which it is mostly covered by the backrest, and an upper position, in which it reaches to the roof of the vehicle body. In top position, the upper frame section is removably fastened to a body part.
