A reactor for the polymerisation of unsatd. monomers of formula (1) is claimed, in which at least the parts of the reactor which come into contact with the monomer-contg. reaction mixt. are coated with a film of gold or gold alloy; CH2+CXY (1) X = H or Me; Y = H, alkyl, -COOH, -COOM (with M = alkali metal or NH4), -COOR, -OCOR or -OR (with R = alkyl), -CN, -C6H4Z (with Z = H, OH, CH3 or -CH=CH2), or -CH=CH2. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of polymers by polymerisation of monomers (1) in a coated reactor as above.
