The invention provides a method of amplification of DNA coding for a cellular protein such as a cell surface receptor wherein host eukaryotic cells transfected with DNA fragments comprising a DNA eukaryotic library, including DNA coding for said cellular protein, inserted in an expression vector capable of expression in the host eukaryotic cells, is contacted with a ligand specific to said cellular protein, the ligand being labelled before or after such contact, whereby individual host eukaryotic cells expressing the protein are identified and selected, the vector DNA then being subjected to cloning or other amplification, optionally after being extracted from said eukaryotic cells.
