The invention relates to a process for producing basic material for moulded articles from vulcanised waste. The essential feature of this process is that the comminution of vulcanised rubber takes place within a closed and interconnected system consisting of a) an apron roll, b) two refiners with high friction and c) a cooling screw, to a particle size of approximately 1 to 4 mm, degradation and vulcanisation agents being added at precise time intervals during this closed process.
