The invention concerns manufacture of a component with a body (2) made of resin and an outer surface with decorative and non-decorative regions. A first area defined on the outer surface is provided with a chemical coating (15) and a galvanic layer (16) by a process which consists of the following steps: a) a first boundary (11) located on the decorative region is formed along the contour of the first area; b) a second boundary located on the non-decorative region is formed along the contour of this area, involving production of a resist layer which is resistant to a solution used to produce the coating (15); c) production of the coating (15); d) selective production of the layer (16) on the coating (15) within the first area.
