A steering axle (1) for vehicles has two longitudinal linkages (2) which have a pivoting connection to the vehicle (7) at one end via elastic steering bushes (6,6'), and at the other end are connected to the kingpins or wheel mounts (4). A crossmember (3) is rigid to bending but yields in torsion, with ends rigidly connected to both linkages. The two steering bushes are of differing performance relative to their effective elasticity and rigidity in both forwards and in reversing directions, along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. This difference is relatively small but is nonetheless significant.
