PURPOSE:To achieve lower light loss and easier assembling by using an optical transmission body having the specific refractive index distribution and length. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 11 thru 18 are disposed parallel in proximity to both end faces 2, 3 of an optical transmission body 1 which has a refractive index distribution decreasing in proportion to the square of the distance from the optical axis face 4, both end faces 2, 3 perpendicular to the optical axis face 4 and a lingth about 1/2m pitch (m is a positive integer) times the pitch at which light propagates zigzag. This causes the light incident to the optical transmission body 1 from the optical fibers 11 thru 14 to become a slender beam and to enter the optical fiber 15 thru 18 at low loss. If refractive index matching liquid is put between the optical fibers 11 thru 14 and 15 thru 18 and the optical transmission boey 1, reflection loss will be decreased. |
