A physically and hydrolytically stable dispersion of a composition comprising a water-immiscible polyester is prepared by dissolving a composition comprising the water-immiscible polyester in an organic solvent system having a water-miscibility at 25 DEG C of between 0.1 and 50 g/100 ml. to produce a solvent solution, preparing an aqueous solution of between 0.1 and 5 wt.% of a carboxylic acid functional water-miscible polymer having an acid number of at least 700, homogenizing the organic solution with the aqueous solution with sufficient shear force to produce suspended droplets of the organic solution of 20 mu m or smaller in an aqueous phase, at least partially neutralizing the carboxyl functionality of the carboxylic acid functional polymer to increase the yield value of the aqueous phase, and stripping the organic solvent to produce an aqueous dispersion of particulates of the polyester composition.
