A hard surfaced screw conveyor (24) for centrifuges (20) comprising a helical metal blade (40) mounted for rotation about the longitudinal axis of the helix and radially extending to an end surface (40c), at least one wear-resistant member (42) on the blade (40) and having a portion (54) radially extending beyond the end surface (40c). The wear-resistant member (42) is secured to the blade by male (52) and female formations (44) on the wear-resistant member (42) and the blade (40), respectively. The female formation (44) has a longitudinal axis that is substantially perpendicular to the blade (40). The formations cooperate to preclude the wear-resistant member (42) from moving in a direction that is radial to the conveyor (24) rotational axis or parallel to the blade (40) during rotation of the conveyor (24).
