An electrophotographic recording apparatus includes a plurality of light emitting elements (3) each for irradiating a photoconductive surface of a photoconductor (1) and each having one-luminescent portion per chip; and a driver (4, 5) for reciprocatively moving a carriage (2) in rightward and leftward directions along an arrangement direction of the light emitting elements (3) and in forward and backward directions along a moving direction of the photoconductive surface of the photoconductor (1). In such an apparatus, there is provided such a control that the carriage (2) is moved forwards at a speed synchronized with a movement of the photoconductive surface of the photoconductor (1), while moved rightward or leftward, in succession, the carriage (2) is moved backward in a state that the carriage (2) is not moved at all or hardly moved in the rightward and leftward directions, in succession, the carriage (2) is moved forward at the a speed synchronized with the movement of the photoconductive surface of the photoconductor (1), while moved leftward or rightward, and in succession, the carriage(2) is moved backward in a state that the carriage(2) is not moved at all or hardly moved in the rightward and leftward directions.
