The target has three substantially plane and mutually orthogonal surfaces (1-3) intersecting in substantially orthogonal lines converging on a corner (S). A reference point (O) is situated substantially on the geometric normal, which intersects all three lines at the same angle, at a distance equal to the square root of 3 times its distance from each surface. Opposite each surface is a sheet (E1-E3) with parallel faces transparent to the radiation, and a known refractive index and uniform thickness.
