The invention relates to a device for measuring and monitoring the extent of deposits in filters and screens. The filter or screen, including the deposits, is situated in an acoustic transmission path comprising sound transmitter and sound receiver. The sound receiver is connected to a measuring device in order to determine the extent of the deposit from the resultant acoustic attenuation due to the deposits formed.
