<p>PURPOSE:To widen a visual field angle and to improve a display grade by packing antiferroelectric liquid crystals into desired spacings from a counter electrode and providing the antiferroelectric liquid crystal layers with auxiliary electric capacitors in electrical parallel therewith for each of respective pixels. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal panel has liquid crystal cells formed by attaching thin-film transistors (TFTs) 8 to the respective pixels on the main surface of a first substrate 18, packing the antiferroelectric liquid crystals into the desired spacings between these pixels and the counter electrode 11 on the main surface of a second substrate 17 and providing the antiferroelectric liquid crystal layers 16 of each of the respective pixels with the auxiliary electric capacitors 14 in electrical parallel therewith and voltage applying means. The liquid crystal cells formed by providing the antiferroelectric liquid crystal layers 16 with the auxiliary electric capacitors 14 in electric parallel therewith are used and the visual field angle is widened by the deformation operation of the liquid crystal molecules thereof. At this time, the electric capacity of the auxiliary electric capacitors 14 is preferably >=35XS (picofarad) when the areas of the respective pixels are defined as Smm<2>. The visual field angle is of a value larger by >=2 times the visual field angle of a TFT type display device formed by using an ordinary TN mode.</p> |
