The liquid-crystalline siloxanes conform to the formula I Y<1>-(SiR2-O) pi -SiR2-Y<2> (I) in which Y<1> is an alkyl or alkenyl radical containing a mesogenic group, Y<2> is an organic radical containing at least one polymerisable group and at least one divalent cyclic group, R is a C1-C3-alkyl radical, and pi is an integer having a value of from 1 to 5.
