摘要 PURPOSE:To provide the stereoscopic image encoder for reducing the amount of codes to occupy additional information such as a motion vector by highly efficiently encoding a close-view image while performing motion compensation, and performing only parallax compensation to a far-view image. CONSTITUTION:At the stereoscopic image encoder, a parallax compensating means 11 compensates the predictive residual of a first sub image as a differential value between a sub image and a main image after the execution of parallax compensation, and the parallax compensating means 11 and a motion compensating means 13 perform both the parallax compensation and the motion compensation. This device is provided with a selecting means 1 for selecting one of data related to two sub images of the predictive residual of the second sub image as the differential value between the sub image and the main image based on the data related to these two sub images and encoding means 2, 4 and 5 for encoding the data related to the selected sub image.
