PURPOSE:To provide a processing method of a photosensitive planographic printing plate improved in prevention of deterioration of a developer, decrease of sludge, improvement in a property to suppress smells, improvement in workability in maintenance and prevention of contact between a floating cap and rollers and a device therefor. CONSTITUTION:This processing method for guiding and transporting the photosensitive planographic printing plate PS into the developer prepd. in a processing tank 5 and subjecting the plate to an immersion treatment comprises discharging an inert gas from the bottom side of the processing tank 5 to form the flow of the inert gas in a liquid surface direction and processing the planographic printing plate while covering the surface of the processing liquid with the inert gas. This processing device for the photosensitive planographic printing plate is arranged with the floating cap 50 consisting of an alkali resistant material on the surface of the processing liquid.
