PURPOSE:To obtain a discharge lamp lighting device which can avoid the application of a high pressure pulse to a switch element in a simple structure. CONSTITUTION:Plural arc tubes 11, 12, 21, and 22, pair up with arc tubes (11 and 12), (21 and 22) started by the different polarities of voltage are formed, and are housed in separate outer tubes 15 and 25 respectively to compose two sets of discharge lamps. One side poles of the discharge lamps are connected commonly to a high voltage side, and the other side poles are connected to the contacts S1 and S2 of a switch circuit 5 respectively. Depending on the ON and the OFF of power source making means 1a and 1b, the switch 5 is controlled, and a main circuit is formed by one side discharge lamp. Furthermore, a pulse with a different polarity is fed to the discharge lamp 10, and the pair of luminous tubes 11 and 12 in the outer tube 15 are lighted in order. After this lighting is over, a main circuit is composed by the other side discharge lamp 20, and the same operation is repeated. |
