PURPOSE:To incorporate the preference of a driver (request for deceleration or request for relaxation of deceleration) into speed change control in descending traveling. CONSTITUTION:When a throttle opening TVO is below a specified value (S2) and a vehicle speed VSP is over a specified value (S4), the traveling is judged to be in descending traveling condition and, When a gear shift range is in D range (S11), the speed change gear position is determined and controlled according to the descending gear shift pattern and based on the current gear shift position, vehicle speed, and gradient resistance (S61). If the gear shift pattern is first range or second range (S12) though the traveling condition is descending traveling, it is judged that a drive requests deceleration and the descending gear shift pattern is changed to further reduce the speed of a vehicle. |
