The invention relates to a traffic information system which receives traffic information from a traffic information center (A) which collects traffic information e.g. from a number of secondary traffic information means (B). The traffic information center (A) comprises coding and transmitting arrangements for transmitting coded, digital traffic information e.g. using a digital radio communication system, to a receiving arrangement (10; 10'). The receiving arrangement (10; 10') comprises a receiving station (1; 1') which comprises decoding and processing means for decoding and processing the coded digital messages. The receiving station (1; 1') further comprises presentation means (3, 3') for presentation of the input or transmitted traffic information. The receiving arrangement (10; 10') further comprises means for storing basic or background information in relation to which the transmitted or input information is presented. The means for storing the basic information is a memory card (2; 2'), at least part of the basic information being optional, said memory card (2; 2') further being exchangeable.
