This invention relates to a fabrication of a gamma camera plate assembly that has long life and improved efficiency. Cladding (9, 11, 13) and reflecting layers (15) provide improvements in crystal output. Seals prevent moisture leaks, prolonging lifetime. Multi-barrier epoxy-filled seals and desiccant-filled recesses (29), elastomer-filled spaces (63, 17) and an extra optical coupling layer (19) provide prolonged life and improved efficiency. Exterior rings with new glass-to-metal seals (49, 47) and metal-to-metal seals (53) provide strong watertight assemblies.
