The machine for converting pieces of wood (5) into shavings can be coupled to or mounted on a machine tool (2). The machine has a surface for arrival (212) of the wood, and for delivery (214) after processing. The two surfaces are level with each other, and are on either side of the machining area. The wood pieces are carried in a box (4). The box is displaced in a to-and-fro motion by a mechanism (6), so the wood pieces are passed under the machining tool several times. A positioning mechanism (8) alters the position of the to-and-fro mechanism so that the wood pieces pass through the machining at different angles. The granularity of the litter is determined by the angular step.
