Self-adhesive label manufacturing procedure

The procedure for making self-adhesive labels with one face which can receive print consists of forming a composite strip from three separate strips (1, 2, 4) of a supple material. The first layer of the material which forms the labels, has a layer of adhesive (3) over the whole of its under-face. There is a protective film layer (2) covering the adhesive, and two or more parallel bands (6-9) of adhesive on the free surface of the film layer for a backing strip (4). The composite strip is passed through a machine which cuts round the shape of the labels as far as the backing layer, allowing the labels with their protective film covering to be detached from it. The upper surface of the labels can be printed prior to the cutting procedure, after which the zones of the strips surrounding the labels can be removed, leaving the labels to be detached from the backing layer as needed.
