With a vehicle, provided with a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine of fuel injection type, regulation of traction force is produced by forced temporary cut-off of fuel feed to one or more engine cylinders dependent upon a control order from a component for determining possibly occurrence of unpermitted drive spin in vehicle driven wheels, which defines the number of cylinders to which fuel feed is to be cut off. In order to hold the amount of unburnt fuel in the exhaust gases from the engine at a low level, it is maintained, when the fuel feed to one or more cylinders as the result of a control order is held cut-off during a work cycle in the engine. Thus fuel is kept cut-off during as large a number of subsequent work cycles as possible whilst taking account of subsequent control orders and predetermined criteria covering the desired work performance of the engine under different drive conditions. |
