The process involves rolling out a textile on site and also rolling out a film of thermofusible material. These two materials are stored as separate rolls and they are laid down together as the machine which lays them advances. The textile material may be an open weave material made up of an open grid of continuous filaments of glass, joined by a thermoplastic polymer or a non woven fibrous sheet, reinforced by a textile grid, or a combination of the two. The machine for laying these materials is designed so that as it advances the film is unrolled in front of the vehicle, which prevents the wheels of the machine from coming into contact with the tie coat. The textile material is unrolled at the back of the vehicle. The textile may be stuck to the film, this prevents any movement of the material when the machines pass over it. The textile material is positioned on the tie coat and is then covered with the fusible film, both materials being unrolled from two rolls at the rear of the machine. The machine may also apply a bitumen emulsion tie coat or one of anhydrous binder, applied at the usual rate. A final coating is applied at a temperature of about 150 degrees Celsius which causes the film to fuse.
