The method involves using a suture anchor (30) provided with thread. It has an extended casing (16) with a proximal and a distal end, which are opposite to one another. The distal end can be introduced into the patient at the point to be operated. A gripper device (10) is provided for engaging the torn tissue and is located at the distal end of the casing. There are further fasteners on the gripper for drawing back the suture anchor provided with thread and for drawing back the thread from the operative point, when the distal end of the casing is removed from the operative point. The gripper comprises a pair of pivotable jaws (12).
