A completely metallic catalyst for the oxidation of hydrocarbon mixtures is prepd. by heating an alloy contng. 10-50 wt.% Ni, 1-50 wt.% Cu, 1-10 wt.% Mn, 10-30 wt.% Cr and 1-50 wt.% Fe in an oxygen contg. atmosphere for 0.25-10 hours, at a temp. of 400-1200 deg C. Reduction by mixed hydrocarbons in waste gas occurs in the temp. range 200-600 deg C.
