The container (2) has a preferably concrete base plate (10) and side walls (27), emptying pump (8) and return pipe forming emptying pipe (6) attached to the pump on one side and to a passage (13) through the container base plate on the other. A control shaft (4) with base and side walls (31) is fitted next to the container and can be inspected from above. The return emptying pipe runs underneath the base plate from its connection with the container passage through a shaft passage (37) through a side wall and into the control shaft. The connection to the container passage and the emptying pipe attached thereto is enclosed up to the control shaft from below by a control pipe (16) of manure-impermeable material. The control pipe is attached to the shaft passage so that manure leaking at unsealed areas at the connections which cannot be seen is collected up in the control pipe and directed to the control shaft so that leaks can be detected and suitable repairs made.
