A gravimetric metering hopper for granular or powdered substances is mounted in a frame (1,2,3) carrying a material container (11) having an opening (12) coincident with a hole (23) in a fixed plate (22) below which the position of a sliding plate (24) with an orifice (25) is controlled by a cylinder (54). A further plate (26) below the plate (24) operates as a control shutter w.r.t. the zones (27,28) and the material is deposited into a weighing container (31) with spring-closed baseplate (32). The weighed quantity is subsequently released into the hopper (53) by action of the lever arm (33) against the spring and thence out of the system via the outlet (52) in the base (51).
