The electronic device prevents unauthorised operation of vehicles. It has a locking unit for the electric and/or electronic components needed to set the vehicle in motion. The device contains several components which cooperate in the vehicle. The device includes a receiver for a wireless radio service. A decoder delivers binary data transmitted by the radio service at an output. A data monitor receives the data from the decoder and has an arrangement to signal to reception of erroneous data. A non-volatile memory contains at least one code individual to the vehicle (vehicle address). A comparator checks data received directly or indirectly from the decoder for agreement with a vehicle address entered in the memory and provides a signal when these tally.
