Distant transversal target speed determn. method for e.g. tank warfare simulation

The method involves using a receiving objective and a CCD two dimensional position sensor to acquire a target and target environment. The sensor signals are digitised (AD) and stored in a memory (POS). From the stored instantaneous images, taken at different times, a difference picture (D) is created. The stored signals for the target and target environment are then subject to different processing, giving a result which activates an pulse generator (PG). The generator pulse output is registered by a pulse counter (I) and a measure of the target movement in the time interval is described. To avoid failure by inexact transversal travelling of the target, the difference pictures and the occurrence counter for the left and right edges of the target pictures are guided through subject to an intermediate value (I'). To fix the travelling direction and polarity of the leading angle the difference of the movement signals are studied. Positive and negative values indicate left or right target movement.
