Method for researching effect on healthy organ of specific damage

A method for determining the reaction of a healthy organ e.g. a heart to secretions from the tissue of a similar heart which has undergone damage during a period controlled stoppage of normal circulatory oxygenated fluid is based on two healthy hearts taken from research animals. The hearts (H1, H2) are suspended in the double-walled vessels (2, 3) and a physiologically neutral fluid is used for the perfusion of both organs (H1, H2) with selected performance parameters recorded (17) under controlled conditions. After terminating flow through the heart (41) during which time tissue damage occurs the resultant secretions are now routed through the still healthy heart (H2) when parameters are compared with the original determinations.
