An electrophotographic photoconductor comprises: an electroconductive substrate (1) consisting of an aluminum alloy having an iron content of 0.1 percent by weight or less; an intermediate layer (2) formed on the electroconductive substrate (1); a charge generation layer (3) formed on the intermediate layer (2); and a charge transport layer (4) formed on the charge generation layer (3). The intermediate layer (2) comprises an alcohol-soluble resin and has a thickness of 0.5 mu m or more.
