The pedal mechanism has a pedal plate (1), acted on by at least one coil spring (11), providing a resetting force, the pedal plate deflection detected by at least one rotary sensor, providing a corresponding signal. The operating shaft (7) of the sensor is driven by an attached lever (6), coupled to the pedal plate, with a recess (9) in the lever receiving a sliding friction element (10), providing a force hysteresis upon depression of the pedal plate. Pref. the sensor is provided as a rotary potentiometer.
