The process applies to the hairs and skin section a contaminant which has a large number of small particles with a high absorption at the frequency of light. The application is performed so that some of the contaminant infiltrates into the hair ducts. The skin section is illuminated with several short pulses of light. The first of the pulses (30) has sufficient energy to cause a large number of the particle to explode into two or more fragments, which spreads the contaminant into the hair ducts. Subsequent pulses have enough energy to cause a large number of fragments to explode into fragments which again spreads the contaminant into the ducts. The explosion and the transfer of energy to and from the particles and the fragments causes damage to the skin tissue (26) surrounding the ducts to cause the hair (28) growing in the ducts to die. |
