PURPOSE:To display distinction at every compression system by designating a format when information is accumulated at every hierarchy, accumulating picture element data in a storage means after converting to a designated accumulation format with accumulation format information and taking out the picture element data by applying inverse conversion based on the accumulation format information when image data is taken out. CONSTITUTION:An inputted original image 1 is divided into sub meshes, and the picture element data of sub mesh hierarchy is generated by thinning out the picture element data. When such data is accumulated in a hard disk 5, a user designates the accumulation format of the image data interactively or by using a parameter file. For example, the hierarchy 0 is accumulated in the hard disk 5 with the format as it is and the hierarchy 1 by compressing with an MMR format based on the designation. Information with respect to the fact that the hierarchy 0 is of non-compression system and the hierarchy 1 is of MMR format are also accumulated in the hard disk 5. When the image date is outputted, the picture element data is taken out by applying the inverse conversion based on such accumulated accumulation format information. |
