USER PAGING METHOD FOR MOBILE SATELLITE COMMUNICATION

PURPOSE: To provide a method for initiating communication between a ground station and a mobile handset by a satellite beam. CONSTITUTION: Forward direction signals for indicating a fixed area covered by plural satellites 20 and 28 are cyclically transmitted. The positions of the mobile handsets 16 and 30 are registered by storing at least one variable geographical value relating to forward direction control signals. Reverse direction signals for indicating an area where the mobile handset is positioned are transmitted from the mobile handset to the ground station 26 during registration and at least one variable geographical value relating to the reverse direction signals is stored in a data base capable of accessing the ground station. The mobile handset judges the matching of the forward direction signals transmitted at present and the stored variable geographical value. In the case that they do not match, the present position of the mobile handset is registered again. The ground station decides which satellite is to start communication signals to the mobile handset, based on the geographical value stored in the data base.
