PURPOSE:To obtain visual interchangeability between a full mode and a normal mode on a monitor and to remove the deterioration of resolution by converting a video signal into images with respectively different aspect ratios in accordance with recording and reproducing time. CONSTITUTION:In this video signal recording/reproducing device, a decoding means 1 generates a full mode video signal 1a with an aspect ratio of 4:3 from an input PAL plus signal aa and supplies the signal 1a to a video signal recording/reproducing means 2. Then a reproduced video signal 2a having the vertical resolution of 576 lines is supplied to a monitor 2 corresponding to the full mode and to a letter box converting means 3, which converts each 4 lines into a 3-line signal by a conversion matrix to generate a video signal 3a with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and supplies the signal 3a to a monitor 1 corresponding to the normal mode. Consequently the visual interchangeability of a highly accurate video signal such as a PAL plus signal on the normal mode monitor can be maintained without deteriorating vertical resolution. |
