PURPOSE:To eliminate cracking of a solid material containing a sample in an initial pressure raising process to be pressed with an extra high pressure press for solid material. CONSTITUTION:In an initial pressure raising process, the extension velocity of a main arm 6a of a main cylinder 6 is controlled by means of the velocity controlling signal obtained by PID-calculating the revolution per minute of a inverter motor 1a to drive a hydraulic pump 1 supplying the operation oil into the main cylinder 6, and an opening degree of a flow rate controlling valve 2 to control the supplying amount of the operation oil supplied to the main cylinder 6 with a velocity regulating meter 20 based on the velocity measuring signal inputted from a velocity detecting unit 18 and the velocity setting signal inputted from a velocity signal generating unit 19. In such a way, because the main ram 6a is extended based on the velocity controlling signal and the solid material containing the sample is not rapidly deformed, so the cracking can be prevented from occurring.
