PURPOSE: To obtain more reliable lead approach to the segments, by forming the traces for exciting electrodes on a plurality of converter segments and the electrodes with the same material. CONSTITUTION: In cutting off an assembly 50 vertically and horizontally for making individual converter segments 30, only a flexible circuit 12, acoustic matching layer 24 and a piezoelectric layer 22 are cut off. Since a lining block 14 is not cutoff, the piezoelectric layer 22 and acoustic matching layer 24 continue to be supported by the lining block 14. Traces 18, 20 and 45 linked with the converter segments 30a, 30b and 30c are formed automatically, and individual traces are integrally connected with the formed electrodes. Individual electrodes and traces 18, 20 and 45 constitute piece members of the same material. Reliable connection can be obtained between the electrodes and piezoelectric parts of the converter segments 30a, 30b and 30c. Excitation signals are expanded in height opening by being supplied to the traces 18, 20 and 45, and a more distinct distant image is generated. |
