The transmission is operated indirectly via a manual gear selector (3) and a control unit (4) incorporating a memory unit (5) with a nonvolatile section (6). The selector lever (10) sends signals to the control unit via co-operative contacts (13,14) and signal lines (16) for information on the selected function (manual, automatic, neutral or reverse), and via actuators (16) and contacts (17) for signalling the selected ratio. The lever is movable in one plane for function selection and in an orthogonal plane for up- and down-changing. |
