Lysimeter for collecting chemical samples from the vadose zone

A lysimeter (1) comprises an elongated sample pipe (3) for positioning vertically in the ground. A circular lysimeter pan (7) extends horizontally from the sample pipe for collecting water moving through the ground. A collection chamber (5) is positioned beneath the pan (7). A sampler (9) is mounted beneath the pan (7) for receiving water from the pan (7), and an elongated member (65) extends upward from the sampler (9) through the sample pipe (3) for withdrawing and inserting the sampler (9) in the colllection chamber (5) below the lysimeter pan (7).
