The chip cards (A,B) and fast encryption modules (SM-A, SM-B) are personalised by a trustworthy authority and certificated. The card (A) and encryptor (SM-A) of one partner generate a situation-specific random number (1) before the other encryptor (SM-B) is called upon for a reciprocal authentication (2). The second encryptor must perform a reciprocal authentication with the corresp. chip card (B), and then the two encryptors perform their mutual authentications (4,5). Secure information is exchanged by token-passing between the two terminal systems.
